My current and ongoing series, titled “American Displacement,” is proving to be a clear example of an exciting maturation of my artistic hand and voice. In this body of work, comprised of oil paintings and supplementing video, my own personal feelings of being an outlier offer an empathetic vantage, while examining displacement concerns in contemporary American culture. Particular themes in the series include immigration, the California fires, public breastfeeding, child loss, LQBTQ communities, and mass shootings. “American Displacement” showcases my 13 highly dedicated years of pushing myself, and learning how to discuss difficult subject matter invitingly, and with a sense of humor - a humor only obtained through life experience and heightened awareness. The paintings and videos ultimately strive to give voice, honor and stage to overlooked people and aspects of our modern culture.
